Moldovan president has discussion with International Monetary Fund's representatives

Chisinau, 8 July /MOLDPRES/ - President Igor Dodon today had an online discussion with the head of the International Monetary Fund’s monitoring mission, Ruben Atoyan, and IMF Resident Representative in Moldova Volodymyr Tulin. The officials considered a wide spectrum of issues on Moldova’s cooperation with this international financial institution, the presidential press service has reported.
In particular, the sides discussed the most important social and economic problems in Moldova, completion of the reform of the financial and banking sector, maintaining the independent status of the National Bank of Moldova (BNM), budgetary and fiscal policy, energy policy, combating corruption and strengthening the rule of law state.
The interlocutors also examined prospects for the working out and signing of a new cooperation programme between Moldova and the International Monetary Fund for the next years, worth 550 million dollars. Thus, the participants in the discussion specified that a meeting of the IMF Board of Directors was scheduled for next September already.
Igor Dodon highlighted that the IMF Mission had already held the first online consultations with the Moldovan government and BNM and the work to this end continued. Therefore, today the interlocutors agreed to organize a new round of negotiations after the ending of the mission in July.
