Drivers participating in races on national roads to be sanctioned under criminal law in Moldova

Chisinau, 9 July /MOLDPRES/ - The participation of drivers in unauthorized races, contests or trainings on public roads will be sanctioned under the criminal law. The parliament today adopted a draft law to this effect in the second reading.
Under the new provisions, Moldova’s Criminal Code will be completed with a new article due to regulate the carrying out illegal races. Thus, the driver’s participation in unauthorized races, contests or trainings on public roads will be punished with fine worth up to 32,500 lei or non-remunerated labour for the benefit of the community from 180 to 240 hours, with the deprivation of the right to drive the transport means for a period of up to two years.
At the same time, the organization of unauthorized races, contests or trainings on public roads will be punished with fine worth from 67,500 lei to 75,000 lei or non-remunerated labour for the benefit of the community from 180 to 240 hours or up to two years of imprisonment.
