Chisinau, 10 July /MOLDPRES/ - Prime Minister Ion Chicu on 9 July paid a working visit to the southern Leova district, the government’s communication and protocol department has reported.
The PM had a meeting with the local public authorities, during which the sides tackled the main problems faced by the citizens of the district. Among them, there are the lack of jobs and the exodus of young people from settlements, removing the unauthorized waste deposits, lack of networks of aqueduct and sewerage.
As a priority, the prime minister and the local public authorities discussed the epidemiological situation locally and nationally, the degree of preparation of medical and education institutions.
The local authorities referred to the need to repair roads. Under the programme, in 2020, financial means worth 27 million lei are scheduled to be allocated from the state budget for the repair and maintenance of national public roads, local, village roads, as well as streets in the Leova district.
The participants in the meeting also analyzed the draft which sees the construction of a bridge across the Prut river, which would connect the Leova town of Moldova with the Bumbata village from Romania. The local public authorities expressed confidence that the bridge would become an important regional and national road, which would contribute to the creation of a common economic area and would facilitate the development of the economic, cultural and commercial relations, with investment prospects in the region.
The natural calamities and their consequences in the zone were on the agenda of the discussions too. The drought of this year hit agricultural crops and caused damages to economic agents.
„Given that the situation in agriculture is critical, the government ruled to increase the agriculture subsidization fund by 100 million lei. The principal possibility of support for the agricultural sector is to provide insurances compensated by the state,’’ the prime minister stressed.
Ion Chicu also inspected a ground in the Leova town, with an area of about ten hectares, meant for the construction of a Multifunctional Industrial Platform (PIM) Its positioning is favourable, as it has connection with the republican road R34 and possibility of connection to all utilities: supply with water and sewerage, gas and electricity. The overall cost of the creation of utilities’ infrastructure is about eight million lei.
„We should reestablish the economy in regions, not only in the capital. There are potential investors; yet, they want to find here all necessary conditions for starting a business. In the draft on taking responsibility, the government provided for 50 million lei for the creation of 16 multifunctional industrial platforms,’’ Ion Chicu said.
By the setting up of PIMs in settlements where there are no industrial parks or Free Economic Zones, the cabinet has the goal to enhance Moldova’s investment attractiveness regionally, develop the sector of small- and medium-sized enterprises, implement modern technologies, as well as to create new jobs.
