Chisinau, 10 July /MOLDPRES/ - The simple motion against the governmental policies in the public health sector, filed by the Pro Moldova group, on 9 July was not backed by most MPs present in the session hall.

After Health, Labour and Social Protection Minister Viorica Dumbraveanu had presented the report on the management of the crisis triggered by COVID-19, lawmakers put questions on the matter during two hours.

At the parliament meeting, the health minister said that the situation was difficult in the system and 30 per cent of the primary medical institutions from villages do not have water and more than a half of them are heated with stoves, having no elementary conditions of work during winter. Dumbraveanu noted that the situation had degraded during years and the earlier initiated reforms and the lack of solid investments had deteriorated the medical system even more.

„COVID-19 has been a test of resistance for the medical system of Moldova. This is a tough routine.  The health system is sick. The strategy of development of the health system failed back in 2017. The supply with medical employees does not cope with the demands. The pandemic has showed us how vulnerable the health system is; yet, the state in which it finds itself is not for one year, but of many years in a row. Despite all challenges, we continue to work. On behalf of the medical system, I thank those who observed the norms imposed by the pandemic and took care of themselves and the people by their side,’’ Viorica Dumbraveanu said.

The opposition lawmakers criticized the way the crisis was managed and showed indignant at the fact that the authorities made a few tests and scarce protocols were established.
