Another 41 servicemen leave for Kosovo. PM say proud of Moldova's performance

Chisinau, 10 July /MOLDPRES/ - Prime Minister Ion Chicu today attended a ceremony of detaching a new contingent of the National Army to Kosovo. Thus, on 12 July, another 41 servicemen (KFOR-13) will leave on a peacekeeping mission: a light infantry platoon, a team of engineers and a meteorologist, the government’s communication and protocol department has reported.
In his speech, the PM wished success to the new contingent prepared to represent Moldova in the peacekeeping mission and thanked all military who have been participating in the KFOR mission beginning with 2014.
„During the last years, Moldovan servicemen have been detached to diverse regions of the world, where wars marked territories and destinies. Therefore, at present, once again, we express gratitude to those over 480 military who participated in the Kosovo Mission, being true ambassadors of peace. Every respect for courage, energy and self-denial!,’’ Ion Chicu said.
The prime minister noted that the participation of the servicemen in this operation was an important contribution Moldova was bringing to strengthening the peace, regional and international security. Besides, this is a high appreciation of the National Army and a proof of the success of the military reforms from the last period.
The strength of the military contingent is deployed at the Camp Vilaggio base from Italy. Their mission is to ensure the guard and security in the zone, patrol jointly with Italian forces, recognize mined grounds or carry out trainings of alpinism. The KFOR servicemen benefit from every support of the partner states: Italy and the United States.
„I thank the governments of the USA and Italy for the support provided in carrying out the programmes on Moldova’s modernization and for the ascendant cooperation we have in more sectors, which are vital for our state’s democratic future,’’ the PM stressed.
Ion Chicu thanked the National Army military and for the active involvement in the government’s effort to fight the COVID-19 pandemic.
