Chisinau, 10 July /MOLDPRES/ - The European Commission today approved the disbursement of 30 million euros of the macro-financial assistance for Moldova.
This is the second and last installment of the current programme on macro-financial assistance for Moldova; the first one, worth 30 million euros, was provided in October 2019. The second installment is made up of 10 million euros as grant and 20 million euros as long-term loan, with low interest.
The programme is meant for helping Moldova cover its foreign financing needs, which is particularly important in the context of the coronavirus pandemic, while implementing a comprehensive and ambitious agenda of reforms.
The disbursement’s goal is to fulfill the political commitments agreed upon with EU, just as it is stipulated in the Memorandum of Understanding. They included important measures in the field of governance of the financial sector, public sector, fight against corruption and money laundering, energy sector and business climate, as well as the implementation of the Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Area (DCFTA). The installments of the macro-financial assistance are conditioned by a significant progress in the IMF programmes. Moldova has successfully completed the sixth and last revision of the IMF’s Extended Credit Facility for three years and of the Extended Fund Facility from March 2020.
