Embassy of Turkey in Moldova donates assistance for families of Transnistria War veterans

Chisinau, 15 July /MOLDPRES/ - The Embassy of Turkey today donated 251 packages of food, meant for the families of the veterans and heroes who died on duty from Moldova. The event took place on the occasion of the fourth anniversary of the Democracy and National Unity Day of Turkey.   

In his speech, Ambassador of Turkey to Moldova Gürol Sökmensüer said that, on 15 July 2016, the Turkish people had faced a bloody attempt of coup d’etat. A small group of military of the Turkish Army, by means specific to terroristic organizations, in coordinated way, attacked both the nation and the administrative institutions of the Turkish state.  

According to the diplomat, each year on 15 July, Turkey, while celebrating the victory of the democracy and national unity, endeavors to pay homage to the heroes who died on duty and the injured ones, as well as to preserve their memory alive.  

”This year, we want to implement a common tradition of the Turkish people and of the Moldovan one and, in the memory of our soldiers, to give a helping hand to the families of those who died on duty and the veterans from Moldova. We are set, in the memory of those 251 martyrs who died in the mean attack from 15 July, to deliver packages of food products to 251 families, and in this way, on these days of ordeal, ease their material burden at least by a little. On this occasion, on behalf of the Turkish people, I commemorate the heroes who died on duty and the veterans who put at stake their lives for the independence and integrity of the friendly Moldova and I convey greetings to their families,’’ Gürol Sökmensüer stressed.    

Attending the event, Interior Minister Pavel Voicu thanked, noting that the assistance would be distributed in the nearest future.

”We, the employees of Moldova’s Interior Ministry, pay homage to our colleagues from the law-enforcement and power-wielding forces, the citizens of Turkey, who, through their energy and devotion to the Motherland, managed to re-establish the order and law and brought victory to the democracy. I express gratitude and offer sincere thanks to you personally and the team of Turkey’s Embassy in Chisinau for the continuous support provided to the Interior Ministry of Moldova,’’ Pavel Voicu said.
