Moldovan parliament makes amendments to normative acts regulating foreigners' regime

Chisinau, 16 July /MOLDPRES/ - The parliament today adopted, in the final reading, a draft law on the amendment of normative acts which regulate the regime of foreigners in Moldova.  

The lawmakers revised the measures of integration offered by the state. At the same time, the categories benefiting from integration measures are extended. It is about the victims of the trafficking in human beings, domestic violence victims, foreigners who practice volunteering activities or who are in Moldova on other purposes which do not run counter the legislation in force.

Also, the amendments voted today will have as finality reducing the risks of immigrants’ social exclusion, ensuring public order and national security through informing starting the moment of the stay’s legalization as to the legal status provided in Moldova.  

At the same time, the MPs extended the access to the labour force market and the term for submitting the application on participation in the programme on integration and changed the legal framework for ensuring the access of foreigners to medical services.  

According to statistics, in late 2019, about 20,000 foreign citizens were documented worth valid identity acts in Moldova, of whom 7,600 had right of permanent stay and 12,400 – right to provisional stay.   

The law will enter into force on 1 January 2021.
