Moldova to join Convention concerning International Carriage by Rail

Chisinau, 17 July /MOLDPRES/ - Moldova will join the Convention concerning International Carriage by Rail (COTIF). The parliament adopted a draft law on the matter in two readings on 16 July.
In accordance with the provisions of the Convention and the uniform rules on the Contract of International Carriage of Goods by Rail, Moldova will join this international instrument with declaration that it will enforce the rules of the Convention only on the railway segment from the Ungheni railway station up to the state border crossing point Ungheni-Iasi on a distance of 1,183 metres and the segment at the Giurgiulesti station up to the state border crossing point Giurgiulesti-Galati, on a distance of 272 metres, and thus, the total length will be of 1,455 metres.
Presently, COTIF brings together 50 states of Europe, North Africa and Middle East. The organization’s headquarters is in Bern, Switzerland. The draft on accession fits the commitments taken in the Moldova-European Union Association Agreement.
