Moldovan government presents first review on implementation of 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development in New York

Chisinau, 17 July /MOLDPRES/ - Moldova’s government has presented the Voluntary National Review (VNR) on the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development in New York. The event took place on 16 July, the government’s communication and protocol department has reported.
Thus, Moldova, along with another 192 United Nations member countries, joined the 2030 Agenda and committed to implement those 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), in order to remove all forms of poverty, combat inequalities and approach the climate and environment changes.
The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development encourages the member states to carry out periodical and inclusive assessments nationally and sub-nationally, which are led by the country. The VNR has the goal to strengthen the governmental policies and institutions, as well as to mobilize the support and partnerships with more sides interested for the further implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals.
According to the review, starting the moment of taking the commitment to implement the 2030 Agenda, Moldova has made significant progress in achieving the Goals as to the diminution of poverty, ensuring a framework for access to decent work and economic growth, actions to diminish the climate changes, as well as signing partnerships for achieving the Goals.
Moldova’s Delegation was led by the deputy secretary general, Adrian Ermurachi. The delegation was also made up of the director general of the National Statistics Bureau, Aurelia Spataru, the secretary general of the Education, Culture and Research Ministry, Anatol Topala, the state secretary at the Health, Labour and Social Protection Ministry, Constantin Rimis.
Also, on 15 July, Moldova organized a VNR laboratory, within which the country’s experience was unveiled as to 2030 Agenda’s incorporation into the national policies and statistics, lessons learnt in the process of implementation of SDGs, the basic principles which guided the VNR-2020 process.
It is worth mentioning that Moldova commits to quickly carry out the SDGs through implementing the Association Agreement with EU, implicitly the 2030 Agenda. The SDGs’ implementation needs a joint effort, through the development of comprehensive and sustainable partnerships, as well as through allocations of enough financial resources. It is important to make sure that all people participate in the SDGs’ implementation, no matter the age, gender, ethnic group, religion, nationality or financial situation.
In the process of working out the VNR, as well as organizing the VNR Laboratory, the government was assisted by the UN Country Team for Moldova, with the financial support of the Office of the Resident Coordinator in Moldova, United Nations Development Programme, United Nations Children’s Fund, UN Women and United Nations Population Fund.
