Moldova supports measures providing for protection of ozone layer

Chisinau, 20 July /MOLDPRES/ - The cabinet members today approved a draft law on Moldova’s accession to the Amendment to the Montreal Protocol on on Substances that Deplete the Ozone Layer, adopted on 15 October 2016.
On 27 July 1996, Moldova signed the Convention for the Protection of the Ozone Layer, signed in Vienna on 22 March 1985 and the Protocol on Substances that Deplete the Ozone Layer, signed in Montreal on 16 September 1987.
The Montreal Protocol represents an international treaty in the environment protection sector, the goal of which is to protect the ozone layer through gradual suppressing of the substances responsible for its depleting. Under the protocol’s provisions, the states sides have the objective to undertake needed measures for protecting the people’s health and the environment against the adverse effects which result or might result from the activities which contribute to the ozone depletion.
