Moldovan government continues negotiations with IMF's experts team

Chisinau, 22 July /MOLDPRES/ - Prime Minister Ion Chicu today had a meeting with the experts team of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), led by Ruben Atoyan, within which the sides continued the negotiations on the signing of a new programme with IMF. Attending the discussions was the leadership of the Economics and Infrastructure Ministry, Justice Ministry, Governor of the National Bank of Moldova (BNM) and others, the government’s communication and protocol department has reported.
The sides appreciated the constructive dialogue from the last two weeks, when the IMF mission held talks with Moldova’s authorities on actions provided for in the new country programme. The latter will include a big set of priority measures aimed at backing Moldova’s economy, promoting good fiscal and financial governance, combating corruption and strengthening the rule of law state, improving the energy policy, maintaining the independent states of BNM, continuing the reform of the central and local public administrations, etc.
„I thank the teams of experts for the work carried out, on most conditions and measures of policies on which consensus was reached. The IMF’s support is valuable for Moldova; it will allows us continue the implementation of really important reforms and for the benefit of the citizens,’’ Ion Chicu said.
The value of the new cooperation programme between Moldova and IMF is 550 million dollars and will be implemented on the period 2020-2023. Most of the sum will be used as budget support.
For his part, Ruben Atoyan thanked for the constructive cooperation with Moldova’s authorities. The negotiations on the new programme will continue. The memorandum between Moldova and IMF is to be discussed at a meeting of the International Monetary Fund’s Board of Directors, due in next September.
