Moldovan premier discusses initiatives on developing northern district with local mayors

Chisinau, 23 July /MOLDPRES/ - Prime Minister Ion Chicu today discussed with local public authorities (APL) from the northern Drochia district. The mayors informed the PM about the difficulties faced in implementing social projects and came up with more proposals on the region’s development. 

According to the government’s communication and protocol department, the local public authorities asked for the cabinet’s support to endow the district hospital with medical equipment necessary in the fight against the pandemic, rehabilitation of the road infrastructure, as well as improvement of the situation in agriculture, as a result of this year drought.  

In the context, Ion Chicu referred to the government’s actions to back farmers hit by natural calamities. The cabinet increased the farmers’ subsidization fund by 100 million lei and increased the insurances’ rate from this sector. Chicu urged entrepreneurs to apply to government’s programmes, in order to benefit from support on behalf of the state. Also, the PM stressed the need to revitalize the irrigation system, in the context of the climate changes.       

To enhance the APL’s capacities in the fight against the pandemic, Ion Chicu said that the health was foremost. ‘’We will provide the Drochia district hospital with needed equipment, especially oxygenation and X-Ray apparatus, which are extremely necessary on this period,’’ the prime minister noted.   

This year, 30.6 million lei was earmarked from the budget for the repair of roads from the Drochia district and 26.4 million lei – from the Road Fund; this is twice as much against 2019. The money will be used for the repair of 46.7 km or road. In 2021, the Balti-Criva road is planned to be reconstructed with the support of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD). ‘’In Drochia, the works of roads’ repair started in all settlements; I asked, first of all, to ensure the quality. We also analyzed the new segments, suggested for restoration next year,’’ Ion Chicu said.      

The Sofia village mayor touched upon the need to repair the school from this settlement and the lack of money for reconstruction works. The PM specified that, jointly with APL, possibilities would be considered to find financing for preparing the institution for the next school year.
