Chisinau, 23 July /MOLDPRES/ - One of the key subjects discussed at a weekly meeting of the Joint Control Commission (JCC), held in Bender today, were the abusive actions of the Joint Peacekeeping Forces, aimed against the rights of journalists, nearby the Molovata Noua settlement, the Reintegration Policies Bureau has reported.
Moldova’s delegation condemns such an anti-regularly and inadmissible behavior, which dishonours the title of peacekeeper, triggers unwished tension in the Security Zone, as well as discredits the peacekeeping mission among the residents from the two banks of Dniester.
The three JCC co-heads instructed that the Joint Military Command carries out, in the nearest time, a research to establish all circumstances of the incident. The findings of the research will be reported to the Commission, which will take a decision on the case.
At the meeting, JCC continued consultations on another post of the Joint Peacekeeping Forces, placed nearby the Vadul lui Voda settlement and which has no proper conditions for carrying out the service. The sides’ positions on the problem remain opposed: Tiraspol wants the post’s ‘’modernization,’’ with the continuous presence of its representatives there, while Chisinau insists on the taking over the administrative duties over the post, after which it is ready to ensure the necessary conditions for peacekeepers.
Another aspect on the Commission’s agenda during three weeks regards the way the Joint Military Command acted starting from 12 March 2020. Moldova’s delegation considers that, first of all, the illegally set posts, which remained outside the Command’s attention, are to be inspected and documented.
Several hours of hot discussions were needed, in order to persuade the sides to univocally assume control over their forces and not to allow infringements as to the regime of the Security Zone during the summer break in the work of the Joint Control Commission. The subject was initiated by the Moldovan delegation’s members, which spread an appeal to this end. The Moldovan delegation said that, in the last years, namely on this period, the militarized formations of the Transnistrian region, sometimes even jointly with the Operational Group of Russian Forces (OGRF), carried out diverse menoeuvres, military exercises in the Security Zone, with the involvement of the strengths and military technology. This subject was postponed for the next meeting too.
In terms of organizational issues, JCC approved a new expert with permanent status within Moldova’s delegation – Vitalie Rusu, ambassador at large, representative of the Foreign Affairs and European Integration Ministry.
