Chisinau, 25 July /MOLDPRES/ - Prime Minister Ion Chicu today went to the central Hancesti district, in order to check the progress made in implementing a project on the supply with drinking water of 11 Prut Meadow settlements. The PM inspected three pumping stations from the Cotul Morii and Obileni villages, the government’s communication and protocol department has reported.
The project’s construction started in 2013, but it stagnated more years. The works were resumed as late as in February 2020, following a visit on the spot by the prime minister, when he demanded the completion of this project till the end of this year. About 20,000 residents from the region will be provided with drinking water within the project in all.
The prime minister highlighted the progress made in carrying out the works. ‘’We have a lot of residents in this region, who have no water in winter either; therefore, when it comes to this project, we speak, first of all, about the people’s lives. The supply with water in Moldova already becomes a problem of vital security for citizens. We have drought, we have lack of water in the traditional sources. Water is life; therefore, we pay increased attention to these projects,’’ Ion Chicu said.
So far, the main aqueduct, to which the settlements will be connected, has been constructed at a level of 80 per cent. It will be built on a length of 30 km. Also, more modern pumping stations and reservoirs have been set. At the same time, the buildings of the pumping stations at four platforms, the pool at the water collection station, the route of electric energy were constructed and the electric panels were set.
The local authorities informed the PM that the works for completing the main water supply aqueduct were still to be carried out and that they were facing difficulties in designing the secondary networks of aqueduct. At the same time, additional financial means are needed to be allocated.
The first households, due to be connected to the system, initially will provide drinking water to a number of about 8,000 residents.
The overall value of the project is about 74 million lei. The money needed to finish the construction will be earmarked from the National Ecological Fund, as well as from the Regional Development Agency.
