Drivers participation in ilegal races to be sanctioned under criminal law in Moldova

Chisinau, 26 July /MOLDPRES/ -Drivers’ participation in unauthorized races, contests and trainings on public roads will be sanctioned under the Criminal Law. The decree on promulgation and the law on the amendment of normative acts will be published in the 27 July issue of the Official Journal (Monitorul Oficial) and will enter into force.
Under the new provisions, Moldova’s Criminal Code will be completed with a new article, which will regulate the holding of illegal races. Thus, driver’s participation in unauthorized races, contests and trainings on public roads will be punished with fine worth up to 32,500 lei or unremunerated labour for the benefit of community from 180 to 240 hours with deprivation of the right to drive vehicles for a period of up to two years.
At the same time, the organization of unauthorized races, contests and trainings on public roads will be punished with fine amounting from 67,500 to 75,000 lei or unremunerated labour for the benefit of the community from 180 to 240 hours or up to two years of imprisonment.
