Contest for filling vacant office of president of Moldova's Supreme Court of Justice cancelled

Chisinau, 28 July /MOLDPRES/ - The members of the Superior Council of Magistracy (CSM), after almost two hours of discussions, today ruled to cancel the contest for filling the vacant office of president of the Supreme Court of Justice (CSJ) and to announce a new contest.
According to the CM members, no candidate had the needed number of votes to lead the Supreme Court of Justice. In these conditions, a decision was taken to hold a repeated contest.
Magistrates Liliana Catan and Anatolie Turcan registered in the contest for the position of CSJ president.
After the announcement of the CSM’s ruling, Liliana Catan said she would no longer participate in another contest.
Today morning, more backers of the opposition organized a protest action outside the CSM headquarters, asking the judges not to allow the involvement of the political factors in justice.
