Moldovan president meets Transnistrian region's leader

Chisinau, 28 July /MOLDPRES/ - President Igor Dodon today had a new meeting with the Transnistrian region’s leader, Vadim Krasnoselsky, at the State Residence from Condrita, which highlights the character of a permanent dialogue, the presidential press service has reported.
At the meeting, Igor Dodon and Vadim Krasnoselsky continued the discussions on up-to-date issues on the agenda and established several long-term subjects. Just as the sides initially agreed back in 2017, there were no banned subjects for dialogue, which certainly contributes to the strengthening of the trust, even if their positions on more matters differ much.
The interlocutors considered in detail the implementation of the Berlin-Plus package. The sides also exchanged opinions on the problems which had appeared in the last months as a result of the spread of the COVID-19 virus. Thus, Igor Dodon and Vadim Krasnoselsky discussed the cancelation of the temporary ‘’quarantine’’ posts from the Security Zone, some actions for ensuring the free movement, as well as for the defence of the human rights and fundamental freedoms.
The sides paid special attention to the subject on preparations for the education process starting from 1 September, movement of pupils and teachers, as well as other aspects of this kind. The sides reached concrete agreements on the promotion of the subject of telecommunications, criminal files and banking problems. They backed the initiative of international partners on an as soon as possible opening of a trolley bus line Bender-Varnita, which is a new project for supporting the free movement and consolidating the confidence.
Igor Dodon and Vadim Krasnoselsky were unanimous in the opinion that it was necessary to continue the open dialogue at various levels and platforms, in order to overcome the obstacles at Dniester, emerged because of the pandemic. The interlocutors noted that, along with the actions at the official level, an important factor contributing to the promotion of the political settlement process was the activity of public organizations from both banks of Dniester.
The sides reiterated the importance of the peacekeeping operation at Dniester as a guarantor of peace and security of the citizens and accepted to undertake joint steps, in order not to allow worsening of the situation in the Security Zone, which would undermine the peace and stability on the entire territory of Moldova.
The head of state and the Tiraspol leader expressed gratitude to the mediators and observers in the 5+2 format for involvement and support provided at the development of the process of negotiations for the Transnistrian settlement. The interlocutors repeatedly underlined the fact that the dialogue and strengthening of trust had no alternative, as they provide opportunities to discuss much more complicated problems within the process of talks on the Transnistrian settlement.
