PM receives Ambassador of Japan to Moldova

Chisinau, 31 July /MOLDPRES/ - Prime Minister Ion Chicu today had a meeting with new Ambassador of Japan to Moldova Katayama Yoshihiro. On this occasion, the PM wished the diplomat much success in exercising the highly responsible mandate, the government’s communication and protocol department has reported.
Ion Chicu thanked for the technical and economic assistance, provided by the government of Japan on a difficult period of global crisis.
At the meeting, the prime minister reiterated Moldova’s interest in the continuous development of the Moldovan-Japanese partnership in the political, commercial, economic, humanitarian and investment sectors.
"We welcome the boosting of the relations between Moldova and Japan in the last time and we deem as important to widen the area of bilateral cooperation. I encourage Japanese investors to examine opportunities provided by those 16 multifunctional industrial platforms, which are to be set up within Moldova’s Industrialization Programme,’’ the prime minister said.
For his part, the ambassador of Japan to Moldova welcomed the Moldovan cabinet’s openness in strengthening the economic cooperation and encouraged the continuation of the European integration, as well as the maintaining of good relations with the foreign partners.
Thirteen enterprises with Japanese capital work in Moldova, with investments of worth 115.104 thousand lei. In 2020, the government of Japan allocated a grant worth 400,000 dollars for the improvement of the equipment of digitalization of Moldova’s National Library. At the same time, the Japanese state provided Moldova with a concessional loan worth 18.7 million dollars within the Modernization of the agricultural technology and equipment project. Over 40 per cent of the modern agricultural technology used in Moldova was bought with Japanese grants.
