Chisinau, 7 August /MOLDPRES/- The General Inspectorate of the Border Police today received a donation of special equipment and material goods, purchased under the project Strengthening Moldova’s national response to the COVID-19 crisis, implemented by the International Organization for Migration (IOM).

The donation is thermal scanners, hygiene products and disinfection equipment for ten border crossing points worth 30,000 dollars. Another 30,000 dollars has been redirected to support the development, updating and dissemination of operational procedures in line with international standards for frontline border guards.

According to Corneliu Groza, the head of the Border Police, this is a significant support given to the institution in combating the cross-border spread of the new type of virus. "I assure you this support will improve the quality of services at the state border, which strengthens the confidence of citizens who cross the state border of the Republic of Moldova during the pandemic," said Corneliu Groza.

For his part, Ghenadie Cretu, program manager at the IOM Mission to the Republic of Moldova, said that the task of integrated border management is one of the most important attributes of a sovereign state. "You have a noble mission and we are glad we can offer you this support together with other UN agencies. Both the public and the Border Police employees deserve to be supported and protected from this challenge. We will continue to do our best to continue the excellent cooperation with your team, which is open and professional," Cretu said.

The project aims to strengthen bilateral relations, improve the capacities of the Border Police to ensure the control and management of cases of infection through border crossing points, as well as to support employees at the control line. The donation sent today is the third in this project.
