Chisinau, 12 August /MOLDPRES/- The Iasi-Ungheni-Chisinau gas pipeline will be officially inaugurated on 27 August when the Republic of Moldova celebrates Independence Day. Prime Minister Ion Chicu made the statement today.

He said “the invitation to attend this event was offered to the head of the cabinet of ministers of Romania, Ludovic Orban”. The official voiced hope that "the operator on the domestic market will take into account this gas pipeline to supply gas to Moldova."

"With the completion of the works, Moldova gets more energy independence and thus consolidates its independence as a country," he said.

The construction works of the Ungheni-Chisinau gas pipeline started in February 2019. The pipeline has a length of 120 km, and the estimated value of the project is 76 million euros. The gas transmission network on Ungheni-Chisinau route represents the second stage of the Iași-Ungheni-Chisinau interconnection project. The first stage, Iași-Ungheni gas pipeline construction was completed in July 2014.
