Moldovan PM invited Romanian counterpart to inauguration of Iasi-Ungheni-Chisinau gas pipeline

Chisinau, 12 August /MOLDPRES/- Opening the cabinet meeting, Prime Minister Ion Chicu said that this year, the Republic of Moldova has an additional reason to celebrate Independence Day, as Iasi-Ungheni-Chisinau gas pipeline was put into operation, one of the most important goals of the national energy infrastructure, which will further strengthen our country's independence, the government’s communication and protocol department has reported.
The launch of the gas pipeline will enhance the energy security of the Republic of Moldova, as a real alternative for the country's natural gas supply in different circumstances. The inauguration event will take place on August 27.
Chicu also approached the situation in agriculture affected by the severe drought. He said that the evaluations of the Ministry of Agriculture, Regional Development and Environment / MADRM / show that over 50% of the lands sown with group I cereals suffered losses of more than 60%. The government has allocated 200 million lei to provide support to the farmers. "MADRM and AIPA have launched the process of offering this money. I ask the responsible colleagues to pay the money by late August,” he said.
The premier conveyed a message to protesting farmers who blocked national roads. "The government comes with support, but it will not tolerate blackmail of that kind, farmers will receive support, but the representatives of this economic branch must not create difficulties for other citizens. Blocking routes is not a solution, "he said.
Chicu asked Minister of Agriculture Ion Perju to continue the constructive discussions with the farmers in the territory, noting that the country’s food security will not suffer, and the MADRM officials must come with a long-term action plan, given that the drought will continue in the future.
