Moldovan PM discussed reopening of schools on 1 September, solutions to remedy situation in agriculture

Chisinau, 13 August /MOLDPRES/- During a working visit to Causeni district, Prime Minister Ion Chicu met today with local public authorities of both levels and farmers to consider problems facing the region and possibilities for settlement, the government’s communication and protocol department has reported.

The prime minister discussed with mayors of the district issues on the preparation of educational institutions for the new year school year from September 1 and the reopening of kindergartens. "We can no longer stop the educational process. The Ministries of Education and Health have developed the necessary instructions for the activity of educational institutions," he said.

Other issues included problems faced by public authorities in the procurement process, the provision of medical care for patients suffering from diseases other than Covid-19 and others.

The prime minister also met with agricultural producers in Causeni district, where in total, this year about 22 thousand hectares sown with wheat, barley and rapeseed were affected. The amount of losses is estimated at about 150 million lei. At the same time, plum and grape growers said they are satisfied with the current price offer. Farmers hope that apple production will be equally appreciated on the market in order to cover spending in other agricultural sectors.

Chicu informed farmers on government measures to support the agricultural sector. AIPA started receiving requests from farmers to subsidize losses incurred on group I crops, for this purpose the government has allocated 200 million lei.

The prime minister and farmers discussed other medium-term solutions that include: restoring anti-hail systems, rebuilding river dams, planting forest strips and developing public policies for the use of groundwater to irrigate agricultural land.

He said he will soon pay another working visit to the southern districts of the country to evaluate the results recorded during this time.
