Moldovan PM on visit to Cahul district

Chisinau, 13 August /MOLDPRES/- Today Prime Minister paid a visit to Cahul district and considered the difficult situation in agriculture due to bad weather conditions. Chicu spoke with farmers in the region who expressed fears that the severe drought could continue in the coming years, so he calls for government intervention in concrete projects to irrigate agricultural land, the government’s communication and protocol department has reported.

Government representatives and entrepreneurs had a peaceful and constructive dialogue, this being the only way to jointly identify the best solutions. Farmers have come up with several short- and medium-term initiatives that would help solve the problems they face.

Chicu welcomed the initiative to exempt farmers from the tax on road use, clarification of the provisions of the lease of agricultural land, state planning of the amount of agricultural products needed per year and development of the livestock sector.

Another issue discussed at the meeting was the support of domestic producers of seed material. The premier pointed out the capabilities of the Research Institute for Field Crops, Selection in Balti, which has experience and beautiful results in processing seeds with high yield and resistant to extreme weather conditions. "We will restore this sector in our country, we have all possibilities for it. We will offer benefits to farmers who will use local seed material ", he said.
