Moldovan PM meets district heads

Chisinau, 14 August /MOLDPRES/- Prime Minister Ion Chicu met today with district heads, where 16 Multifunctional Industrial Platforms / PIM / will be created. The meeting was organized to discuss technical actions necessary to prepare each platform in the initial stage.

The government provided 50 million lei for connecting the selected lands to the infrastructure utilities.

According to the government’s communication and protocol department, the prime minister stressed the importance of the country's industrialization for economic development. "We are aware that without industrializing the country, without creating opportunities for potential investors to launch products in Moldova, we will continue to be dependent on agriculture, the climate factor and we will continue to export wheat, while purchasing high value-added products from abroad,” he said.

The meeting focused on concept of the pilot program and the roadmaps for each platform with the necessary technical actions, prepared by the Ministry of Economy and Infrastructure and ODIMM. "We need to be clear, to understand in each district what and how to do, as there are 4 months left in which it is important to be able to use all actions planned this year," he said.

He thanked the local public authorities for involvement and noted the need for further joint efforts for the second stage, attracting foreign investors to the country's districts. At the initial stage, the PIM will operate in the general tax regime of Moldova, and the authorities will examine the possibility to offer a special tax regime to large foreign investors, if this is a condition for coming to the country.

The district public administrations of six districts have completed the technical procedures set out in the first stage and are ready to conclude the cooperation agreement with ODIMM to proceed to the second stage. The launch of the program will contribute to regional socio-economic development of the country, increase competitiveness and create new jobs.

The 16 districts where the platforms will be built are: Anenii Noi, Basarabeasca, Briceni, Cantemir, Criuleni, Donduseni, Dubasari, Floresti, Glodeni, Ialoveni, Ocnita, Leova, Rascani, Sangerei, Soldanesti and Telenesti.
