Application for accessing compensation in agriculture to be simplified - agriculture ministry says

Chisinau, 16 August /MOLDPRES/- The Ministry of Agriculture, Regional Development and Environment (MADRM) will simplify the procedure for submitting applications for accessing compensation provided by the government to mitigate the damage caused by drought. Relevant minister Ion Perju made the statement at yesterday’s meeting with initiative group of protesting farmers.

"Following the dialogue, we found consensus. We will amend at the next cabinet meeting the Regulation on granting compensation to mitigate the consequences of natural disasters on the 2020 harvest. Thus, MADRM will simplify the procedure for submitting applications for companies that have lost more than 60 percent and are eligible for compensation to reduce the damage caused by this year's drought," he said.

Farmers will have to present a certificate confirming the area of agricultural land owned or worked and the crop cultivated on it, a document issued by the local public authority / town hall where the farmer is operating.

The meeting also focused on issues related to assessments, collection and processing of data on registered damages received from the territory.

Under government decision, the Ministry of Agriculture, Regional Development and Environment, through the Agency for Intervention and Payments for Agriculture will distribute one hundred million lei from the National Fund for Agriculture and Rural Development to provide compensation to reduce the consequences of natural disasters on 2020 harvest.

This year, out of the 415 thousand hectares of cereal crops, almost 200 thousand were affected by drought and other natural disasters of over 60%.
