Moldovan speaker to attend summit of women speakers of member countries of Interparliamentary Union

Chisinau, 17 August /MOLDPRES/- Speaker Zinaida Greceanii will participate in the 13th Summit of Women Speakers of the member countries of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU). The summit is organized by the IPU in cooperation with the Austrian Parliament and the United Nations, and is held on 17-18 August under teleconference, the parliament’s communication and public relations department has reported.
The event will focus on collective and individual action needed to enhance equality between men and women, in the context of the 25th anniversary of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action. The agenda is focused on priority areas where bold action is needed: climate change, women's economic empowerment and financial inclusion, combating and preventing violence against women and girls.
Greceanii will deliver a speech in front of participants in the meeting.
The summit precedes the 5th world conference of speakers due on August 19-20.
The IPU is the largest interparliamentary forum in the world. A quarter of all IPU parliamentarians are women.
