Moldovan speaker delivers speech at Summit of Women Speakers of member states of Interparliamentary Union

Chisinau, 17 August /MOLDPRES/- Speaker Zinaida Greceanii gave a speech today at the 13th Summit of Women Speakers of the member states of the Interparliamentary Union (IPU), presenting her view on way to speed up economic empowerment and financial inclusion of women, the parliament's communication and public relations department has reported.

The speaker referred to the Moldovan authorities’ efforts to eliminate discrimination against women in the legislative framework. In this respect, Moldova approved the Strategy for ensuring equality between women and men in Moldova for 2017-2021, the National Strategy for preventing and combating violence against women and domestic violence for 2018-2023, the National strategy for preventing and combating trafficking in human beings for 2018-2023. In collaboration with the World Bank, the European Union, the UN Women Organization, projects are implemented for rural women, women with special needs, Roma women, etc. They are aimed at strengthening the financial, political, civil inclusion of women.

At the same time, the speaker stressed the importance of continuing joint efforts to increase women's political participation. "I am sure we will enhance women’s inclusion, as provided by the law passed in 2016 that women must be represented at least 40 percent in the Cabinet of Ministers and in the lists of party candidates," she said.

The summit is organized by the IPU in cooperation with the Austrian Parliament and the United Nations and takes place on 17-18 August under teleconference. The event precedes the 5th World Conference of Speakers due on August 19-20.
