Moldovan speaker meets Japanese envoy

Chisinau, 19 August /MOLDPRES/- Speaker Zinaida Greceanii had a meeting today with new Ambassador of Japan to Moldova Yoshihiro Katayama, the parliament’s communication and public relations department has reported.
The sides exchanged views on the Moldovan-Japanese cooperation agenda, sharing interest in continuing dynamic of cooperation between countries.
They approached the crisis on COVID-19. In this context, Greceanii thanked authorities and people of Japan for the support provided to Moldova in this difficult period and for the technical assistance.
"Japan is a reliable partner and a good friend of Moldova, this has been demonstrated by the important support provided in agriculture, science and education, medicine, environment and culture through monetary support etc," she said.
Greceanii opted for extending economic cooperation and emphasized the interest of the country's authorities in attracting new Japanese investments, including in the industrial platforms to be set up in the territories.
Congratulating Yoshihiro Katayama on his appointment as Ambassador of Japan to Moldova, Greceanii wished him success and reiterated full openness to dialogue and cooperation.
Katayama expressed respect for Greceanii's work as speaker.
The ambassador said he was interested in working for the development of Moldovan-Japanese relations, especially for the promotion of interparliamentary cooperation relations.
Also, Katayama expressed willingness to help expand economic cooperation and create new jobs in Moldova through Japanese investments.
Diplomatic relations between Moldova and Japan were established on 16 March 1992.
