Moldova, Canada to negotiate defense agreement

Chisinau, 19 August /MOLDPRES/- Cabinet members voted today to start talks on draft agreement between the Moldovan and Canadian governments on defense cooperation.

The initiative to conclude a defense cooperation agreement with our country at the government level is a recommendation of the Parliamentary Committee on National Defense of Canada, stipulated in the Report Response to Russian aggression against Ukraine, Moldova and Georgia in the Black Sea region, December 2018.

The draft agreement aims to establish the general principles and procedures for cooperation between the parties in defense and does not contravene the rights and commitments assumed arising from other international treaties.

The defense cooperation between Moldova and Canada started in 1996.
