Chisinau, 20 August /MOLDPRES/- The procedural actions of the General Prosecutor's Office in the last two weeks in the Metalferos case are not related to situation on the metals market, nor to privatization of the company, not spontaneous, being the result of a titanic work, submitted by prosecutors during the last five months. Prosecutor General of the Republic of Moldova Alexandr Stoianoglo made the statement today.

According to a study conducted by the General Prosecutor's Office, the Anticorruption Prosecutor's Office did not document the basic aspect of the crime, the economic one, or, in the absence of an analysis of bank accounts from which cash was withdrawn, detained several people. "This huge volume of work was carried out by the General Prosecutor's Office during the quarantine. More than a hundred bank accounts were analyzed by prosecutors, the result highlighting the outlined aspect of the crime. Based on the established ones, steps were taken to arrest those involved in the fraud of Metalferos company, some of them being previously detained ", he said.

According to the official, the investigations showed that during several years, the ferrous metals market was monopolized, the company having active connections only with certain companies, with which metal delivery contracts were concluded.

On average, up to 280 dollars per ton was transferred to the accounts of the companies. Subsequently, the amounts were liquefied under acts of acquisition of metals from private people mostly from Transnistria.

According to Stoianoglo, investigating the theft of the billion, as well as other resonant cases, should not only be the priority of the prosecution, but of all those who contribute to justice. "Only through joint and sustained efforts and actions, based on law and good faith, will we be able to restore credibility to justice. There is no other way ", he concluded .
