Chisinau, 24 August /MOLDPRES/- Prime Minister Ion Chicu participated today in a weekly meeting of the country's leadership. President Igor Dodon, Speaker Zinaida Greceanii and Prime Minister Ion Chicu approached the latest developments in pandemic, projects for farmers and events marking national holidays in late August, the government's communication and protocol department has reported.
The premier noted that last week, the highest number of Covid-19 infections was registered in Moldova. "The explanation is simple - almost total non-compliance with health rules. Unfortunately, if the trend continues to be negative, we will have to return to certain restrictions," he said.
He spoke about the resumption of the school year in conditions of maximum security and in strict compliance with the rules imposed by CNESP. "The decision to reopen school is up to the founders, and those who are not ready will not receive operating license," he said.
Chicu broached the package of legislative changes related to agriculture: reimbursement of VAT accrued by farmers in order to pay tax payments related to wages and land tax, subsidizing interest on old and new credits employed by farmers, and simplifying the mechanism that allows farmers to benefit from VAT without paying. "The government has worked out the project and the moratorium for fiscal controls for farmers and the possibility for the Chamber of Commerce and Industry to issue the force majeure certificate. The project is to be submitted to the International Monetary Fund for coordination," he said.
He also said that AIPA has already processed the first applications on partial compensation for farmers.
In terms of the holidays marked in late August, Chicu said that this year they will be held in a smaller format, in conditions dictated by the pandemic.
