Moldovan, Turkish officials broach important issues

Chisinau, 26 August /MOLDPRES/- Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration Oleg Țulea hosted today official visit to Moldova by Turkish counterpart Mevlüt Çavușoglu, the MAEIE’s press service has reported.

The visit’s agenda included the participation in the first meeting of the joint group for strategic planning, working meetings with President Igor Dodon and Prime Minister Ion Chicu, as well as participation on August 27 in the official inauguration ceremony of the Consulate General of Turkey in Comrat.

The organization of the first meeting of the joint group for strategic planning in Chisinau, co-chaired by foreign ministers included a wide range of topics of common interest on the bilateral agenda such as: political-diplomatic dialogue, economic and investment relations, cooperation in consular affairs, Transnistrian issues, security issues, as well as interaction within regional initiatives and international organizations.

Țulea highlighted the importance given by Moldova to turn to good account the real potential of economic relations between our countries, Turkey being the 7th largest trading partner of our country and an energetic investor in the seven Free Economic Zones and industrial parks in the country.

The two officials agreed to organize in Ankara, as soon as the epidemiological situation allows, the next meeting of the Joint Intergovernmental Commission for Moldovan-Turkish Economic Cooperation, which is the main mechanism and an effective tool for deepening bilateral relations.

The Moldovan official thanked for the financial and technical assistance provided to our country through the Turkish Agency for Cooperation and Coordination (TIKA), which over the past 25 years has allocated about 40 million dollars and implemented with local partners over 400 projects in health care, education and environmental protection.

The Turkish side donated medical equipment to the national health system and computers to the educational system of Moldova.
