Moldovan speaker discussed with International Monetary Fund officials

Chisinau, 1 September /MOLDPRES/- Speaker Zinaida Greceanii had an online meeting today with Head of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) mission Ruben Atoyan and new IMF Resident Representative to Moldova Rodgers Chawani, the parliament’s communication and public relations department has reported.
The speaker wished success to the new IMF resident representative to Moldova and showed openness for a fruitful bilateral cooperation.
Greceanii said that parliament's autumn session began today. "Tomorrow, the standing committees will be convened in meetings, and the plenary session of the parliament could take place next week," Greceanii said.
In another context, the speaker also spoke about the decision of the authorities to resume today the educational process in schools.
Rodgers Chawani said that yet in Washington, but he wants the new economic program supported by the IMF to enjoy much success as the previous.
On 7-24 July 2020, the IMF team of experts, led by Ruben Atoyan, held long-term discussions with the Moldovan authorities on the new economic program, which will be supported by a three-year agreement.
Chawani is the successor to Volodymyr Tulin, who has held this position since 2017. Rodgers Chawani is originally from Malawi, a state in Southeast Africa, and has been working for the IMF since 2013. He has held the positions of senior economist and country economist, responsible for several countries.
