ICT sector become one of locomotives of economic growth in Moldova

Chisinau, 3 September /MOLDPRES/- In 2019, the information and communication technology (ICT) industry has become one of the locomotives of economic growth in Moldova.
According to the Ministry of Economy and Infrastructure, in 2015-2019 the IT industry recorded an increase of more than 3 times the annual sales revenues - from 2.1 billion lei to 6.6 billion lei, reaching a share of 3.1% of GDP and registering an increase of over 1.32 billion lei, only in 2019.
The positive evolution in the ICT sector is accompanied by the increase in the number of companies in this period - from 1,700 to 2,300, and of the employed staff - from 21,300 to 29,600 people, ensuring the best level of salary in the economy. With the tax regime of IT Park, over 600 resident companies recorded an average salary of about 29 thousand lei per month.
Thus, it was possible to motivate highly qualified IT engineers to stay in the country, which contributes significantly to economic growth based on digital innovation.
The Ministry, by approving a Roadmap for digitizing the economy and promoting e-commerce, has embarked on a process of eliminating the constraints on the technological modernization of the entire national economy, preparing a lot of legislative adjustments and actions to support digitalization on various economic verticals.
