Head of St. Lazar cemetery detained for 30 days

Chisinau, 4 September /MOLDPRES/- The head of the St. Lazar cemetery, his deputy and a foreman were arrested for 30 days, placed in Penitentiary 13. They are under criminal investigation for passive, active corruption, influence peddling and fraud in 130 criminal cases. Citizens, who suffered from the illegal actions of the administration of the cemetery are expected to CNA with a complaint.
According to CNA data, three other persons are being investigated at large, after signing guilt agreements and collaborating with the investigation.
The three detained officials and those investigated at large are suspected of collecting money from the relatives of the deceased to provide them with a burial place.
If found guilty, members of the group risk up to 10 years in prison and criminal fines.
The people who had to pay additional payment for a burial place at the cemetery in Chisinau are urged to report the facts to the CNA criminal investigation body.
