Chisinau, 8 September /MOLDPRES/- The head of the National Agency for Public Health (ANSP), Nicolae Furtună, came today with explanations and public apology after his message in a TV show generated a wave of discontent in public.
Today, several opposition politicians and representatives of civil society asked Nicolae Furtună to resign, after he declared on a television station that “the people who died of COVID-19 were a burden for themselves and for those around them”.
At the same time, in a post on a social network, President Igor Dodon announced that "he expresses his regret and dismay at the statements made by ANSP head Nicolae Furtună".
"Public apologies are not enough when a statement morally affects a large number of people. I have no objections to Mr. Furtuna's work, I know he worked hard in this very complicated pandemic period, but the completely inadequate statement he made seriously affects his credibility for his further work. I believe that after this statement he no longer has the moral quality to hold the position of ANSP director and must resign. I have conveyed my position to the government and I am waiting for a decision in line with the expectations of public opinion ", he said.
