Chisinau, 8 September /MOLDPRES/- Strengthening parliament’s role in improving gender equality in Moldova was the topic of today's online discussion between Speaker Zinaida Greceanii and country representatives of four UN agencies in Moldova: Dima Al-Khatib from UNDP, Nigina Abaszada from UNFPA, Desiree Monique Jongsma from UNICEF and Dominika Stojanoska from UN Women, the parliament’s communication and public relations department has reported.
Greceanii appreciated the cooperation with the UN agencies, and opted for further partnership in developing and boosting projects on gender equality and promotion of women in political, economic and social life.
In this context, the speaker highlighted the importance of respecting the 40 per cent participation rate of women in the next parliamentary elections.
Greceanii welcomed the establishment of the coordination structure of the platform for dialogue of MPs and its formalization.
The sides appreciated strong partnership with the Moldovan parliament and expressed willingness to support the dialogue platform. Such a platform was created in 2015, for the first time, with the support of UNDP and Sweden, as a mechanism to promote gender policies and gender perspective in legislation.
