Moldovan, European officials approach cooperation, reforms

Chisinau, 10 September /MOLDPRES/- Political and sectoral dialogue with the European Union, the prospects of the Eastern Partnership, the management of the epidemiological situation and preparations for the presidential elections were the topics on the agenda of Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration Oleg Tulea and Oliver Varhelyi, European Commissioner for Neighborhood and Enlargement, MAEIE’s press service has reported.
The Moldovan official thanked the authorities for support in strengthening the national health system in counteracting the consequences of COVID-19 pandemic, and assistance to overcome negative consequences on national economy. The official assured him that the Moldovan government remains fully involved in implementing the European agenda and the technical processes agreed in the dialogue with the European Union.
Tulea pointed out that both bilaterally and in the format of our country's active participation in the Eastern Partnership, we want an ambitious and concrete agenda that will produce lasting results for the benefit of the citizens of the Republic of Moldova. He noted willingness to launch negotiations on the new Moldova-EU Association Agenda for the coming years.
He informed about the elaboration by the Moldovan government of an Action Plan focused on the socio-economic recovery of the country. It was emphasized that EU sectoral assistance remains an important catalyst for the reforms and the authorities are working hard to take the necessary action.
Referring to the Eastern Partnership, Țulea said that Moldova is interested in developing a set of goals that will bring political dialogue and sectoral cooperation between the EU and Eastern partners to a new qualitative level.
Commissioner Oliver Varhelyi approached the plans of the European institutions in the context of preparations for the Eastern Partnership Summit next spring.
Referring to the presidential election this autumn, the commitment to make every effort to conduct the election in accordance with international standards was reiterated.
