EU to back Moldova in efforts of modernizing energy sector

Chisinau, 10 September /MOLDPRES/ - Foreign Affairs and European Integration Minister Oleg Tulea today had a meeting with European Commissioner for Energy Kadri Simson. The officials discussed aspects of the cooperation in the energy security sector; this was one of the priority subjects in the sectoral dialogue with the European Union, the Foreign Affairs and European Integration Ministry’s press service has reported.
Oleg Tulea and Kadri Simson referred to the elements of strategic importance, which include the development of interconnection with the European Union, especially the finishing of the construction and fully putting into operation of the gas pipeline Iasi-Chisinau-Chisinau. At the same time, the officials reiterated also the significance of the project which would ensure, if needed, the supply of gas in regime of inverted flow through the Trans-Balkan corridor.
The interlocutors discussed also the importance of interconnection of the high-tension lines to the EU market, through Romania, as well as prospects of cooperation in the energy efficiency field and renewable energy.
For her part, Kadri Simson informed about EU’s willingness to back Moldova in its efforts of modernizing the energy sector and integration in the regional system and the European energy market. At the same time, she stressed the importance of full transposing of the Third Energy Package and continuing the implementation of the commitments taken within the Association Agreement.
