Risk of cyber attack on state institutions increases during election period

Chisinau, 11 September /MOLDPRES/- One of the most important challenges to the national security of the Republic of Moldova is related to cyber security.

Director of the Intelligence and Security Service Alexandr Esaulenco said in an interview with MOLDPRES that "cyber security is one of the most important challenges to national security."

According to him, during the electoral period, the risk of cyber attack on state institutions increases. "Activation of cyber attacks on Moldovan state institutions takes place during election periods, therefore measures are taken to identify vulnerabilities and risks of disrupting the functionality of state information infrastructures", he said.

He also noted that in order to avoid disrupting the activity of the public administration authorities, "SIS in cooperation with the Information Technology and Cyber Security Service, periodically evaluates the security status of intranet, internet, e-mail and hosting services within the telecommunications system of public administration authorities.
