Chisinau, 15 September /MOLDPRES/ - The first atlas of ecologically safe agriculture has been launched in Moldova. It represents an electronic map, on which the certified producers of organic farming products of Moldova are presented.
The atlas was conceived and implemented within the project, Agro-ecology for sustainable rural development, financially backed by the Small Grants Programme of the Global Environment Facility (GEF) and implemented by the public association EcoVisio.
The atlas contains information about each ECO certified producer, the area owned, crop bred, the certification organization which issued the ECO certificate, as well as information about the processors and producers of ECO processed agricultural goods. The platform conveys updated information in the reference year and is to be updated each year, depending on the up-to-date information. At the same time, the atlas contains more filtres of selecting the combinations of data, which facilitates the accessing of needed information.
The atlas is meant for state institutions, actors in the environmental protection sector and people’s health, as well as for the civil society representatives.
There are 151 farmers owning ECO certificates for about 50 agricultural crops in Moldova. The area cultivated with ecologically safe agricultural crops is estimated at about 26,000 hectares.
