52,000 Moldovan citizens living abroad previously registered to vote

Chisinau, 16 September /MOLDPRES/- Pre-registration deadline for Moldovan citizens entitled to vote who are abroad expires today.
The Central Electoral Commission / CEC / announced that, according to statistics, by 16 September over 52 thousand citizens entitled to vote were registered. Most requests are from voters who want to vote in the Italian Republic (over 10 thousand), the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland (about 8 thousand), the Russian Federation (over 5 800), Germany (over 5 thousand).
CEC noted that according to the electoral legislation, the following criteria are established for the establishment of polling stations abroad: the number of voters who participated in the previous election, organized in the national constituency, the pre-registration of Moldovan citizens abroad, information obtained by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European integration from the competent authorities of the countries of residence regarding their number and location.
The electoral administration also announced that it had drafted a decision on the organization of polling stations abroad for the presidential elections on 1 November 2020. The draft document including over 200 proposals was sent to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration for consultation with the authorities of the countries of residence for availability of opening polling stations.
