Over 60,000 Moldovans pre-registered to elections

Chisinau, 17 September /MOLDPRES/- Over 60 thousand Moldovan citizens voting abroad and residing in the localities on the left bank of the Dniester have previously registered.
The Central Electoral Commission (CEC) reported that, on the date of expiration of the pre-registration deadline, 60,030 Moldovan citizens were registered to participate in elections for the position of President of the Republic of Moldova. Of the total number of requests, 2,819 were made on paper.
In this context, the central electoral administration announces that it has notified the Intelligence and Security Service and the Ministry of Internal Affairs in order to verify the veracity of the data from the pre-registration applications, submitted both in writing and online.
According to the CEC, information about the number of voters who participated in the election in the national constituency, as well as information obtained by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration from the competent authorities of the countries of residence are the basic criteria underlying the decision to open polling stations abroad.
According to the legal provisions, the polling stations, including those abroad, are set up at least 35 days before election day, until 26 September 2020.
