Moldovan PM has meeting with Ambassador of United States

Chisinau, 18 September /MOLDPRES/ - Prime Minister Ion Chicu today discussed with Ambassador of the United States to Moldova Dereck J. Hogan the bilateral relations and the priority sectors of common interest, the government’s communication and protocol department has reported.
The officials exchanged opinions on the situation in Moldova, given that the pandemic triggered numerous challenges in all life fields, especially in the health, education and economy sectors. The sides discussed actions undertaken by the authorities to cope with this unprecedented situation, as well as measures taken to stimulate economic activities.
Also, in the context of the electoral period, PM Ion Chicu said the government was focusing on ensuring a transparent and democratic electoral process, with maintaining the sanitary and social distance measures, according to the international practices and standards. The prime minister expressed concern about the latest frequent attacks against the Central Electoral Commission, coming on behalf of electoral contenders. Chicu also drew the ambassador’s attention to ungrounded insinuations about eventual attempts to rig the elections.
Dereck J. Hogan voiced hope that the competent authorities would ensure a free and fair electoral process, as a result of which the will of the citizens will be observed.
The PM thanked the American diplomat for the material and intellectual support provided in the process of the state’s modernization, as well as for the technical support which is so necessary in the fight against the COVID-19 virus.
