Chisinau, 25 September /MOLDPRES/- On 24 September, members of the Joint Control Commission continued discussions on issues in the Security Zone, the Office for Reintegration Policies has reported.

The Transnistrian representatives hostile position did not allow the inclusion on the agenda the analysis of the situation in the Security Zone as a result of the installation of illegal checkpoints.

However, the sides have managed to reach a compromise decision on the issue of the functioning of the Joint Military Command since March 12 and until now.The activity of this body of the peacekeeping mission, subordinated to the Joint Control Commission, was blocked by Tiraspol exponents who oppose the movement of military observers for the regular documentation of illegally installed posts and fences under the pretext of combating the pandemic. The Commission expressed concern about the Command's failure to meet the tasks outlined by the JCC, stressing that this had led to the non-signing and non-approval of the military's weekly reports. In this regard, the Command will elucidate in all aspects every case of non-execution of Commission decisions starting March 12 and will report on the measures taken.

The Moldovan delegation also noted that the abusive actions that continue to maintain illegal posts denote the aspiration of Tiraspol's force structures to consciously strain the situation in the Security Zone and to openly ignore the existing pacification mechanisms, being supported by the Transnistrian delegation in JCC, whose representatives even actively participate in the "inauguration" of the new subdivisions of "border guards", as happened in Teiu locality from Grigoriopol district.

The issues were reflected in the statements of the delegation of the Republic of Moldova to the members of the JCC, the representatives of Ukraine and the OSCE Mission to Moldova (statement of 9 September 2020, statement of 23 September 2020).

In accordance with the Principles of Cooperation between the OSCE Mission and the Joint Control Commission, signed on 10 December 2004, the OSCE Mission to Moldova monitored the situation in the Security Zone in August and September, notifying the presence of 12 additional posts managed by the Transnistrian side.

Ognjen Jovic was confirmed at the meeting as the representative of the OSCE Mission to the JCC.
