Moldovan PM meets Country Representative of UN Children's Fund in Moldova

Chisinau, 25 September /MOLDPRES/ - Prime Minister Ion Chicu today had a meeting with Representative of the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) in Moldova, Desiree Monique Jongsma, who ends her mission in Moldova in late September.
According to the government’s communication and protocol department, the PM thanked for the effort and dedication with which the UNICEF mission got involved in the providing of assistance for fulfilling the government’s priorities in the field of ensuring the well-being and promoting the rights of children in Moldova.
"Due to the efforts made, the principal indexes have improved, which show the carrying out of the rights and well-being of children from Moldova. Your contribution in the context of COVID-19, donations collected and offered to the sectors from education, healthcare and social assistance – all represent a solidarity act, high professionalism and dedication,’’ Ion Chicu said.
The prime minister awarded to the UNICEF country representative in Moldova, Desiree M. Jongsma, the Government’s Diploma for the progress made in the work during the entire mission. In the context, the official gave assurances for an efficient cooperation in continuation with the UNICEF Office in Moldova, for the carrying out of the programmes and priorities established in the field dealing with the child’s highest interest.
For her part, the UNICEF representative in Moldova offered thanks to the government for an efficient cooperation in the achievement of the goals set to back children, especially vulnerable ones. She also appreciated the attention paid by the PM in the work of the National Council for the Protection of the Rights of the Child.
„We appreciate the government’s effort and involvement in the establishment and fulfillment of the objectives in the promotion of children’s rights. Thanks to the joint effort and the efficient collaboration, we have managed to invest in children and this is an essential thing,’’ Desiree Monique Jongsma said.
The interlocutors discussed also challenges which need enhanced attention, especially the Moldova 2030 draft national development strategy on Education.
UNICEF Moldova significantly contributed especially on the segment of the promotion of children’s rights, access to quality education, health and social protection. Also, on the period of the pandemic, UNICEF managed to ensure the quick implementation of the distance education, as well as the promotion of the culture of health.
