Demolition or restoration of Chisinau-based National Philharmonic to be decided following technical expertise

Chisinau, 25 September /MOLDPRES/ - Prime Minister Ion Chicu today chaired a working meeting, the participants in which discussed measures necessary to be undertaken to remove the consequences of the devastating fire which destroyed the building of the Chisinau-based Serghei Lunchevici National Philharmonic, the government’s communication and protocol department has reported.  

The head of the Interior Ministry’s (MAI) General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations (IGSU), Mihail Harabagiu, informed the PM that the fire had been fully liquidated. At present, measures are taken to remove the current danger, evacuate the assets left, accounting documents and the library’s collection.   

A technical expertise of the building’s walls will be carried out on the days to come and depending on the results, a decision will be taken on the following scenarios: demolition or restoration of the building. In case of the complete demolition, it will be carried out till next winter.   

The participants in the meeting discussed the ensuring of the further work of the Philharmonic’s artistic staff. A temporary building was identified for the employees of the cultural institution, which also has a rehearsal hall. If necessary, the option of preparation for concerts in one of the halls of the Palace of the Republic will be analyzed.   

The Education, Culture and Research Ministry will soon start a comprehensive process of consultations with the society on the future project of the National Philharmonic. Following consultations, a contest will be announced for the working out of the technical project of the new cultural object and the construction works will start.   

The PM noted that the cabinet would allocate the necessary resources for removing the consequences of this tragedy. The official also said that he had received more support messages on behalf of citizens and ambassadors accredited in Moldova, who displayed intention to contribute to the edification of the cultural heritage.   

„Such a building is difficult to be reestablished only from public money and Moldova’s citizens must regain their Philharmonic. We will earmark financial means to remove all consequences of this tragedy. I am happy with the solidarity, support and encouraging on behalf of our citizens, foreign partners and in these moments we should remain consolidated for a noble cause,’’ PM Chicu said.
