President of Inter-Parliamentary Union on first ever visit to Moldova

Chisinau, 26 September /MOLDPRES/ - The president of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) visits Moldova for the first time ever on 26 September – 2 October. IPU is a global organization of national parliaments, which brings together 179 parliaments and 13 associate members, the parliament’s communication and public relations general department has reported.
IPU President Gabriela Cuevas Barron visits Moldova at an invitation by Parliament Speaker Zinaida Greceanii.
During the visit, Gabriela Cuevas Barron on 28 September will have a meeting with Speaker Zinaida Greceanii, during which the officials will exchange opinions on the cooperation between the Moldovan parliament and IPU. The sides will also tackle possibilities of strengthening the bilateral relations between Moldova and Mexico, as Gabriela Cuevas Barron is member of the Chamber of Deputies of the General Congress of the United Mexican States.
Gabriela Cuevas Barron will also meet the members of Moldova’s parliament at the Inter-Parliamentary Union.
On the sidelines of the visit, the anniversary book of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, Celebrating 130 Years of IPU, will be presented at the headquarters of the parliament.
IPU represents the biggest inter-parliamentary forum of the world, which promotes the goals of the United Nations Organization and works in close cooperation with the latter. IPU’s headquarters is placed in Geneva and Moldova became member of the Inter-Parliamentary Union in 1992.
