Moldovan head of state meets president of Inter-Parliamentary Union

Chisinau, 29 September /MOLDPRES/ - President Igor Dodon today had a meeting with the president of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), Gabriela Cuevas Barron, the presidential press service has reported.
Igor Dodon welcomed Cuevas Barron in Moldova and appreciated the cooperation of this organization with the parliament and other state structures of the country. The head of state spoke out for boosting contacts at the parliamentary level and in more sectors of mutual interest.
At the same time, proceeding from the fact that Gabriela Cuevas Barron represents Mexico, the Moldovan president reiterated the importance to foster the bilateral relations with this country, for the good of the two peoples.
Referring to the presidential polls in Moldova, Igor Dodon stressed the country’s interest to hold this ballot in strict accordance with the international standards, Moldova’s legislation and with an as wide as possible participation of international observers.
The Inter-Parliamentary Union is an international organization of parliaments and represents a parliamentary forum for peace, cooperation between nations and democracy. The organization is focused on five basic fields: representative democracy; international peace and security; sustainable development; human rights and international humanitarian law; women in the political life.
Gabriela Cuevas Barron was elected IPU president in October 2017 for a three-year mandate.
